فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ ٱلذِّكْرِ Frequently asked

No silly questions, just warm answers.

A few of the questions we hear most often, gathered in one quiet place. If yours is not on the list, write to us and we will reply within two working days.

Visiting

Coming to the centre.

A few practical notes for your first visit. Everything else, we will sort on the day.

Do I need to be Muslim to visit?
Not at all. The centre is open to everyone. We regularly host open days, iftars, and community events that welcome neighbours, friends, and curious visitors from all backgrounds.
What time is Friday prayer?
Jumu’ah, the Friday prayer, runs at 1:15 pm every Friday. The full gathering takes about thirty minutes — a short sermon followed by a brief congregational prayer, and tea afterwards.
Can I bring my children?
Yes. Children of all ages are welcome at every event. There is no dress code for children, and we keep a quiet corner near the back for babies and toddlers to settle.
What should I wear?
Modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees works well for any visitor. Women are not required to cover their hair, though many choose to. Men are welcome in long trousers. Shoes come off at the prayer-hall door.
Where is the centre?
We are raising funds for a permanent home, so visits run by appointment for now. Please email info@mudgeeislamiccommunity.org and we will reply with directions, parking notes, and a warm welcome.
Is the centre wheelchair accessible?
Our current meeting spaces vary. Please email ahead and we will confirm access for the venue you plan to visit, or arrange an alternative if it is not suitable.
Donating

Giving with confidence.

Every dollar goes towards the prayer hall, the classroom, and the iftars we share with the wider Mudgee community.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Once our DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status is confirmed, donations of $2 or more will be tax-deductible. We will email you a receipt either way.
Can I give zakat?
Yes. We collect zakat through a separate fund and use it only where religiously appropriate, in line with traditional rulings. See the zakat page for details.
Where does the money go?
The build fund pays for the building, the fit-out, and the first year of running costs. Ongoing donations cover programs, utilities, and audit. We publish an annual financial report each year.
How do I set up monthly giving?
On the donate page, tick the “monthly” option on the form. You can change the amount or cancel at any time.
Can I donate things, not money?
Yes. We sometimes need furniture, books for the children’s library, halal grocery contributions during Ramadan, and volunteer hours. Email info@mudgeeislamiccommunity.org with what you have in mind.
Programs

Classes and study circles.

Quiet, unhurried teaching for children and adults. Most classes are free, and no one is turned away on cost grounds.

Are the Quran classes for children only?
Children’s classes run on Saturday mornings. Adult Quran and Arabic study runs on Sunday afternoons. See the programs page for the current schedule.
How much do classes cost?
Most classes are free. We ask for a suggested donation where families can afford it, and we never turn anyone away on cost grounds.
Do I need to enrol in advance?
Yes, please. Enrolling helps us plan classroom space, books, and tea. Use the form on each program’s page, or email info@mudgeeislamiccommunity.org.
Are non-Muslim children welcome?
Our religious classes focus on Muslim children, but our open days, library, and youth events are open to everyone in the community.
Events

Open days, iftars, and gatherings.

A calm, welcoming calendar — with food, almost always.

How do I find out about upcoming events?
The events page lists everything coming up. You can also subscribe to our weekly Friday email or follow us on social media.
Can I host or co-host an event with the centre?
Yes — especially if you are a school, council, business, or another faith community. See the partner page or email info@mudgeeislamiccommunity.org.
Are events alcohol-free?
Yes. Our centre is an alcohol-free space, in line with Islamic practice. Food is always halal.
About

Who we are.

A volunteer committee of local Mudgee families, with a wide bench and a wider welcome.

Who runs the centre?
A volunteer committee of local Mudgee families. The committee meets monthly. An independent auditor reviews the annual accounts, and we publish them in our financial policy.
Are you affiliated with a particular school or sect?
The centre is non-sectarian. Families from a range of backgrounds pray here, and our committee reflects that. Our religious practice follows mainstream Sunni tradition, with respect and welcome to other traditions.
How can I get in touch with media?
Email info@mudgeeislamiccommunity.org with “Media” in the subject line. The partner page has a short press kit.

Didn’t see your question?

Send it through. We will reply.

A short note is plenty — who you are and what you would like to know. We aim to reply within two working days, often sooner.

Quiet questions are welcome. So are loud ones.
